All About Kathryn

Kathryn Parr is a distinguished technical writer, editor, and illustrator whose career is marked by a dedication to excellence and a passion for the written word. Raised with an innate curiosity and a love for storytelling, Kathryn’s journey into the world of writing began at an early age, and her talents have since blossomed into a multifaceted career.

Education

Kathryn attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Writing. She developed a deep appreciation for the nuances of language while honing her skills and finding her voice as a writer.

Eager to refine her craft, Kathryn attended Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina to earn her Master of Fine Arts in Writing. She explored diverse genres and writing forms while learning to both give and receive crucial constructive criticism. The rigorous curriculum and mentorship from experienced professors and authors challenged her to grow as a collaborator.

Career

Kathryn is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in writing, editing, and illustrations. Her career demonstrates a strong commitment to quality and showcases her ability to adapt and thrive in various industries.

She began her career as an editor, focusing on educational literature content and resources for younger students. She then transitioned to the quality-critical world, editing helicopter and light aircraft insurance policies, gaining experience in handling complex and technical information. Kathryn’s aptitude for precision led her to begin co-writing supply chain quality audit reports for high-profile pharmaceutical clients including Johnson & Johnson, Baxter, and Pfizer. She progressed into web content management and oversaw a network of 60+ websites and advertisements relating to golf, tournaments, and private events, but ultimately decided she found the most fulfillment working in quality-critical sectors.

In a return to more technical work, Kathryn joined the Honda team as a technical editor. She quickly proved herself to be a competent writer, despite a lack of automotive knowledge, and discovered her surprising skillset in taking complex, technical information and processing it to be understood by a separate target audience. She became a true technical writer, fueled by attention-to-detail, and continued in the automotive world as the managing technical writer for an EV industrial vehicle manufacturer. She happened to write numerous software manuals during that time, and with that experience transitioned into the IoT space as the lead technical writer for a wireless charging innovator, writing instructions for groundbreaking technology with no predecessor for reference.

Kathryn has since moved into the contracting world, which allows her to utilize the unique experience she has amassed to aid growing businesses in their endeavors. With strong exposure to end-to-end writing processes, regulations and requirements, and interdepartmental collaboration, Kathryn seamlessly joins your team to identify and fill gaps in your documentation across the board.

Kathryn is also an accomplished technical illustrator, bringing concepts to life and simplifying photographs through digital line drawing and shading techniques. Her illustrations enhance documentation, making pages more engaging and visually appealing.

Personal Life

Kathryn is happily married and cherishes the moments spent with her husband, two sons, and two cats. In her spare time, Kathryn indulges in a variety of hobbies. She is an avid reader (of course), constantly exploring new genres and authors. Passionate about cooking, Kathryn loves experimenting with recipes and preparing delicious meals for her family, although her toddler still usually prefers applesauce. To stay active, Kathryn practices Pilates. This discipline helps her to stay physically fit so that she can chase after her crazy kids.
